The South Pacific Regional Fisheries Management Organisation (SPRFMO) successfully held its 13th Annual Meeting in Santiago, Chile, from 11 to 21 February 2025, bringing together delegates from Members, Cooperating Non-Contracting Parties, Observers, and stakeholders committed to the sustainable management of fisheries resources in the South Pacific Ocean.

This year’s Annual Meeting included the 13th Meeting of the Commission, the 12th Compliance and Technical Committee (CTC) Meeting, and the 12th Finance and Administration Committee (FAC) Meeting. It also featured a science-policy workshop of the Jack Mackerel MSE Task Team and a session of the Salas y Gómez and Nazca Ridge Task Team, highlighting SPRFMO’s continued emphasis on science-based management and ecosystem conservation.

A series of side events organised by the Chilean Government and SPRFMO Observers further enriched the programme, fostering discussion on regional marine policy, sustainability, and innovation in fisheries management.

Key outcomes of the meetings included the adoption of new Conservation and Management Measures (CMMs) and updated ones, progress in the development of Electronic Monitoring (EM) standards, and discussions on enhancing observer coverage, compliance processes, and responses to climate change impacts on marine ecosystems.

Delegates also elected Mr James Brown as SPRFMO’s new Executive Secretary, who brings extensive expertise in international fisheries policy and multilateral negotiations to the role.

SPRFMO extends its appreciation to the Government of Chile for its generous hospitality and outstanding organisational support.
