The SPRFMO Scientific Committee Stock Assessment and Simulated Assessment Workshop of Jumbo Flying Squid (SCW18) took place between 29 July and 1 August 2026, in person, in Shanghai, China. Hybrid participation was enabled.
The SCW18 focused on the stock assessment and simulated assessment of jumbo flying squid (Dosidicus gigas) in the SPRFMO Convention Area. It supports the work of the Squid Working Group and the Assessment Simulation Task Team by reviewing available assessment data, candidate stock assessment models, model assumptions, diagnostics, sensitivities, simulation scenarios, and expected outputs for consideration by SC14.
The workshop agenda was structured around four main themes:
• Day 1 (29 July): Introduction, data review and assessment setup;
• Day 2 (30 July): Stock assessment model runs and diagnostics;
• Day 3 (31 July): Stock assessment results, interpretation and scientific advice; and
• Day 4 (1 August): Simulated assessment, operating model development and experiment design.
The public materials for the workshop were available in this public repository. Assessment data, model inputs, scripts, intermediate results, and confidential working files were maintained separately in a private repository.
