During the 7th meeting of the SPRFMO Commission, an extension to the arrangement between SPRFMO and CCAMLR, which was due to expire in April 2019, was adopted by the SPRFMO Commission. The Arrangement was finally signed by the Chairpersons of both Organisations on 4 March 2019.

The text of the Arrangement has been worked on and agreed by both Organisations and is particularly relevant considering the close existing ties.

The main areas included in an implementing Annex are:

  • Cooperation on toothfish tagging research;
  • Exchange regarding CCAMLR Catch Documentation Scheme
  • Reciprocal links to each other's IUU Vessel List
  • Exchange on Observer Programme

The ceremony took place at the SPRFMO Headquarters in Wellington, New Zealand. CCAMLR was represented by its Chairperson, Ambassador Fernando Curcio, while SPRFMO was represented by its Chairperson, Mr Osvaldo Urrutia. The SPRFMO Secretariat staff attended the ceremony.
